Athens - take a day trip to Lake Vouliagmeni

Thought to have been created when a cavern collapsed in an earthquake in the Middle Ages this is a sunken lake that is fed by underground streams. A constant 24 degrees Celsius all year around the waters are thought to have healing powers. The lake is also great for kids as there are many shallow areas for them to play in.

Athens - watch the changing of the guard at Syntagma Square

Dressed in ceremonial clothing these are real guards and they really are at work. Every hour the guard changes as these guys stand motionless for the rest of the time. It’s all over in 10 minutes so it is worth stopping by if you can. There is a bigger ceremonial changing of the Guards every Sunday at 11am that includes a band. You can take photos with them but do not touch.

Corfu - go to Aqualand for a family fun day

A day out at Aqualand has something for everyone from the smallest child to the biggest adults. The whole park is covered by lifeguards so no need to worry unnecessarily. The giant slides and rides are great fun and the park also has relaxing gentle streams with rings to sit on. The park is open every day but make sure you wear sun block as the cool water can make the hot weather deceptive.

Crete - enjoy the views from charming Balos Lagoon

Crystal clear waters, golden sandy beaches and absolutely no one around means this could possibly be one of the best spots for swimming in the Mediterranean. For the more energetic there are the ruins of a castle believed to be from 1582 to explore. Access to the beach is not that easy so be prepared for a scramble. The views are worth the effort.

Crete - go hiking at the Rocky Path Samaria Gorge National Park

One of the best hikes in Crete this is a 16km walk downhill and is not for the faint hearted, you need some degree of fitness. The views are spectacular as are the smells from the fresh herbs growing along the walk. Once arriving at the bottom of the walk the only way out is by boat, unless you want to walk back up the hill so best to take a coach tour and let them pick you up from the ferry.

Delphi - visit the historic Delphi Ruins

There is so much to see here you just will not have time unless you stay in a hotel nearby. The ruins are truly amazing especially the amphitheatre. If you know where to stand amaze your friends and others when they can hear you all the way at the top. Great place to sing a song to if you can. Be sure to check out the many athletic statues.
